But the farm presented problems too big for Leith to handle alone, and the only neighbor she could rely on to help her was that arrogant male chauvinist, Mace Benedict. The arsonist OW who set fire to heroine's home is, according to the hero, a mischievous child who is not really dangerous even though she is not a child but a full grown woman who happens to be his very recent ex-girlfriend , and he would do everything to protect her from prosecution, including paying off the heroine for the damage to her property, because friends don't let friends get prosecuted.
Oh,these Harlequin heroes, they are so droll!

I really liked scenes where she developed the kiln and and worked on her pieces. Mar 30, Anna Erishkigal rated it really liked it. Leith's impulsive buy of a run-down back-country farm with lottery winnings to escape from the big city in this case, Sydney, Australia and give her space to work her art as a professional potter would appeal to all us back-to-the-farm folk.
The challenges she runs in to The neighbors are, well, neighborly, and the run-down Leith's impulsive buy of a run-down back-country farm with lottery winnings to escape from the big city in this case, Sydney, Australia and give her space to work her art as a professional potter would appeal to all us back-to-the-farm folk. The neighbors are, well, neighborly, and the run-down old farmhouse and outbuildings she purchases would give This Old House a run for their money.
The story takes place in Tasmania, so for an American there were lots of unfamiliar terms, but not so many as to mar the story. When Leith gets on a creative potting binge to do an exhibition, any of us who has ever had a noisy 'Muse' urging us to create could relate to how ridiculously obsessed she gets with her work. Reading how she builds her own woodfired kiln and then glazes pieces in it is worth the read alone. The story missed out on a fifth star because, although the hero was enjoyable, Mace's interest in the prickly, self-reliant Leith in spite of how much she discourages him all the time just seemed a bit contrived.
He's a successful farmer, attorney, and business man who already has a beautiful if shallow girlfriend, but instead he's chasing Leith.
